Animal Husbandry Technician

Our Client is looking for an Animal Husbandry Technician to help with the running of a busy animal unit based in Yorkshire. Duties include routine procedures associated with the day to day management of studies run within animal house operations or specific skills, collection/recording of scientific data.

Essential Job Duties:

  • The post holder will be expected to help with local projects as assigned and put forward project ideas.
  • To ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and in particular those relating to Animal Welfare, GLP and Health & Safety.
  • Awareness of the SOP review process.
  • Attend training for data collection.
  • Complete welfare notification forms within the required timeframes.
  • Awareness of the Animal Welfare Forums.
  • To maintain competence at all tasks in accordance with current SOPs and in line with competence check lists (CCLs).
  • Adherence to Company Policies and Procedures (P&P’s) and general Animal House processes
  • The role involves working in any of the relevant departments within the Animal House as required and it would be desirable for the post holder to be cross trained in multiple species.
  • The post holder will be expected to work towards certificate level of the Institute of Animal Technology.
  • To perform other tasks which may be reasonably requested/delegated by the supervisor

Experience/qualifications required

  • Demonstrated excellent attitude towards work
  • Good communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to utilise word-processing software, databases, spreadsheet and specialised software.
  • The ability to work well within a team.
  • The ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in both Maths and English; gained through either academic study or professional work experience.
  • Educational standard may include an Institute of Animal Technology qualification, a relevant BTEC National/Higher National Diploma or relevant degree.
  • It is required that the Post Holder will actively manage his or her own continued professional and career development.
