Laboratory Manager

We are proud to be collaborating with an exciting Gene Therapy company who are going through a period of sustained growth. There is an immediate opportunity for a highly organised, proactive, and positive-minded candidate to join our client’s R&D Teams. The Research Laboratory Manager role will be based in the heart of London in their established research laboratories in Cambridge. The role will involve management of physical and administrative laboratory activities to support the research teams in development of the client’s innovative gene-modified cell-based therapies.

The Role:

The role will specifically support the laboratory’s research staff by overseeing activities, which include procurement and stock management to ensure an adequate inventory of reagents and materials enforcing environment, health and safety measures and managing biohazardous waste removal, management of equipment, as well as administrative duties including coordinating between departmental groups. The ideal candidate will be a hard-working professional able to manage in a hands-on capacity all laboratory operations and work diligently under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the company’s laboratories
  • Assist in the budgetary management for the operations and services budget for the lab spaces, including preparing forecast and budget information. To also oversee invoicing and coding procedures to ensure budget controls are maintained ensuring that transactions are all in accordance with financial procedures and regulations
  • Assist in the management of the interface between the technical and operations teams, building users, Senior Officers, and estates service providers, as appropriate
  • Manage all general laboratory operations including waste consolidation and removal, gas tank exchanges, hazardous waste disposal, etc.
  • Ensure that the laboratory is cleaned/sanitized and kept in an orderly manner
  • Enforce established safety policies/procedures and standards of working practices
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and generate ideas for improving efficiency and productivity in the laboratory operations

To Apply:

  • To be successful in your application, you will have the following skills and experience:
  • 3 – 5 years research laboratory experience in the pharmaceutical industry, biotech industry, life sciences industry, or other regulated industry
  • Experience in writing/following standard operating procedures
  • Experience with COBRA, HTA, GMO and related License Applications
  • Good understanding of laboratory management issues and procurement procedures
  • Good understanding of Environment, Health & Safety issues relevant to the laboratory
  • Familiarity with BSL-1 and -2 requirements and practices
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, in-person and in writing
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in a biologic field, life sciences, chemistry, or pharmaceutical science
Salary: £52,000 - £65,000
