Are you an employer of Animal Technicians? Are you looking to be a part of S3 by giving your time to help train future budding technicians whilst having access to a pool of sustainable candidates to support your future staffing needs?


How it works for you


Your route to success looks like this:

  1. S3 Science discusses your needs, number of new technicians and start dates
  2. We advertise your roles, pre-screen all applicants, hold selection days and industry specific workshops
  3. Selected candidates are invited to create their video interview
  4. You are sent a shortlist of trainee technician portfolios containing their workshop scores, CV and video interview
  5. Decide on your technicians and arrange a start date (allowing at least 2 weeks for completion of learning modules)
  6. The enrolled learners complete their security screening and online learning module training
  7. S3 Science trainee technicians start their paid work experience within your facility
  8. At the end of the work experience phase you can hire your newly trained Animal Technicians

What does the online training cover?


The modules are marked by a qualified animal technician with over 10 years of experience. They will also have teaching and CAVA training. The pass mark for each module of online learning is 80%.

Additional modules may be provided to those working with species outside the standard online training. Also included is

We also provide module training for all our service technicians.

As employers within the industry, many of you will be familiar with the struggle to find and retain ‘trainee level’ talent due to inexperience or a lack of understanding of the Life Science role and the career potential that comes with it. This leads to newly inducted staff leaving their career within their first few months. Poor staff retention is disruptive, with both money and time being wasted. Our programme is an employment solution to end unsustainable recruits.

Better trained and ‘quality’ animal technicians


We noticed a considerable gap in the market for temporary workers who are both motivated to learn or able to learn with the proper support. This was hard to balance as temporary workers are often seen as an ‘extra pair of hands’ and they do not always receive the proper training to set them up for a good start. By training and developing S3 Trainee Technicians, we ensure they voluntarily jump through the required hoops.

Employers were fed up with paying for trainees who had come off the back of a job board with no real training or motivation. Motivation and behaviours are easier to assess once someone is in the role. Temporary workers coming and going can cause issues with trust, reliability, wasted time, costs and resources. S3 Science is committed to providing our clients with animal technicians that are dedicated and motivated to start their careers.

  • S3 Science provides all trainee technicians with online modules and a face-to-face training sessions with qualified trainers, so that they are fully aware of what is expected of them
  • By providing the training to all our technicians, they better anticipate how working in an animal research facility will be, so both employers and technicians can focus on creating a good working relationship. – this also enables employers to focus on getting it right from day 1

Widened pool of candidates


Diversifies and widens the standard pool of candidates. This allows you to obtain talent which may have somehow been missed off before due to a candidate’s lack of industry awareness, confidence or issues such as nerves during an interview etc.

S3 Science can offer opportunities to wider groups and allow people to access vacancies with reasonable adjustments, such as guaranteed interviews, online information workshops, and working interviews. S3 are disability confident and mental health first aid trained to ensure we can accommodate, if necessary, a learner as best as possible.
