We have a new and exciting opportunity to join one of our well-known clients as an Animal Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for the husbandry of animals such as rodents and insects contributing to the day-to-day running of the facility. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Section Head to maintain and grow the animal cultures on-site.
Main Duties
- Culturing pest species of insects, ie:
-Cockroaches
-Mosquitos
- Flies & maggots
- Feeding insects in line with procedures
- Cleaning out insect enclosures to maintain optimum hygiene levels
Observational work
- Preparing insects for laboratory trials
- Recording results of laboratory trials
- Preparation of testing equipment and surfaces
- Preparing reports for insect testing and statistical analysis of results
General Duties
- Maintaining high levels of hygiene across the whole laboratory facility
- Following health and safety procedures
- Working independently
- Providing cover for colleagues
- Contributing to team discussions and making suggestions to further improve the work of the facility
- Purchasing food for insects and ensuring stock levels of feed and consumables are maintained
- Assisting with new rodenticide development projects, i.e. preparing wax block or grain samples using a new formulation, trialling new wax or binders, formulating new cereal mixes
- Any other reasonable request
Salary: £19,500 - £23,000 p/a
