Licensed Animal Technician

The institute has also recently undergone a successful revamp of the facility as well as the grand opening of a new state-of-the-art building to compliment their growing team and capability. The role is a full time, permanent opportunity to work with a variety of species including mammals and aquatics within state-of-the-art facilities. We are looking to recruit animal technicians across all levels to support our client’s growth.
Your duties will include the following:
- Working efficiently as a part of a team to ensure that animal cages/tanks are cleaned out as required
- Health checking of animals to insure they are free from injury, disease and pain
- Management of breeding colonies (including GA rodents and fish) to ensure constant supply of animals, without over breeding, and advising researchers on the available numbers
- Ensuring all areas, surfaces and equipment are as sterile as possible, preventing the introduction or spread of disease and infection
- Preparation of aquatic diets with the subsequent feeding of fish
- Keeping accurate records for breeding, disposal and environmental data to comply with Home Office Legislation
- Performing genotyping and other Home Office regulated procedures as required
- Management of waste streams to ensure all clinical waste is disposed of correctly
Skills and Experience:
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- Knowledge of animal welfare and husbandry
- An understanding of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, and the implications associated with any breach of these regulations
- Knowledge of COSH
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Certificate for Home Office License PIL AB and C
- Institute of Animal Technology level 2 or above
