Business Development Manager

We are working with an aspiring contract research organisation, to recruit a preclinical Business Development Manager. You will be representing and develop the organisation in all business activities for all the contract research divisions, you will also be responsible for the CRO project management.


Main Duties and Key Responsibilities

As the CRO Business Development Manager:

  • Business development strategy and implementation for CRO business
  • CRO client relationship management across all stages: enquiry, qualification, negotiation, planning, project execution, delivery/results, and feedback
    • building and maintaining relationships (meetings, presentations, needs/requirements analysis etc.),
    • monitoring next steps and following up/keeping in touch,
    • strengthening relationships via partnerships.
  • Proposal/quotation and invoice instruction preparation – discussions from initial enquiry to refined requirements.
  • Service Agreement – terms negotiations and progress management – also Non-Disclosure Agreements and execution of other legal documents.
  • Supervision of marketing to meet CRO needs
  • CRM data entry and management – reporting, pipeline, and business targets monitoring.
  • Participation in promotional events, meetings, conferences – lead generation and promotion.
  • PM data entry and management – creating monthly project progress reports for contract deliverables.
  • Establish new contacts and seek business opportunities for the contract research
  • Maintain contact and knowledge of existing clients and hence encourage repeat business
  • Liaise with client companies regarding business opportunities and feedback from existing clients
  • Attend exhibitions, conferences and informal meetings
  • Organise and attend regular business development meetings with client companies
  • Maintain knowledge of pharmaceutical, medical, research industries


Skills, knowledge and experience required including any necessary qualifications

  • Educated to a high level (degree in business or scientific subject)
  • Experience within the CRO business, pharmaceutical, medical device and other research industries
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Well organized and self-motivated
  • IT literate i.e. internet, office and business management software
  • Previous business development experience with proven track record
  • Project managing skills are desirable
  • Be able to travel is necessary


Salary: £42,000 - £50,000
