Deputy BSU/ Laboratory Manager/ NAWCO

Job description
A critical member of the research team, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day management of one of our renowned client’s rodent research facilities, both in terms of maintaining animal husbandry and supporting the operational needs of a multitude of research projects. You will, therefore, have experience working in a research environment with their input helping to contribute to high quality science outputs and be a competent technical manager; ensuring experimental work is conducted and the BSU and associated laboratories are managed in accordance with good laboratory practice. You will be able to form productive working relationships with other technical and professional services staff, stakeholders, and suppliers in maintaining overall operations and culture of care within the facility.
Requirements
You will be expected to have a working knowledge of rodent housing systems, BSU infrastructure and biosecurity. You will be a competent PIL operative and will use this to support research in the facilities.
- In-depth knowledge of Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 ensuring all requirements are met in accordance with the home office regulations
- Proven experience working in the Life Science sector
- PIL License holder
- Currently or previously held the position of a Named Animal Welfare Officer (NACWO)
About you
- BSc in a relevant science or animal field/ and or equivalent experience working in a BSU facility or similar
- NACWO Qualification or willing to work towards NACWO qualification
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of ASPA
- Ability to train or demonstrate techniques confidently to groups of people
- Competent IT user, experience of MS Office software
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Good knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and other applicable legislative requirements
- Recent proven experience in a Biological Services Unit
