Deputy Manager & Named Training and Competency Officer
We are currently looking for an NTCO/Deputy Manager to join one of our amazing clients in the West Midlands, managing the technical staff and assisting with the management of resources and facilities.
Some of your main duties will include:
- You will hold responsibility for the line management of technical staff including recruitment and selection, probation, performance management, training, and mentoring
- Working closely with the Animal Manager to co-ordinate and manage daily activities of the physical resources and technical staff in the unit
- Assisting with the husbandry, cleaning, selective breeding, and maintenance ensuring that the animals are free from injury, disease, and pain and bred in accordance with the ASPA as required
- Writing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures for management of the provision and necessary training for user groups
- Conducting and co-ordinating inductions and appropriate technical training for staff and researchers
- Responsible for ensuring that all those working with animals under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act (ASPA) 1986 are adequately educated, trained, and supervised until they are competent and that they continue to undertake appropriate further training
- Endorse all Home Office personal licenses (new licenses and amendments) using ASPeL, the Home Office electronic licensing system
- Liaise directly with the Home Office Inspector (in the absence of the BSU Manager)
Requirements:
Certificate in the following:
- Certificate for HOL modules 1 – 4
- Home Office Personal License
- Home Office Named Animal Care and Welfare Certificate
- Home Office Named Training and Competency Certificate
Experience:
- Extensive experience in the care of laboratory animals
- Extensive experience in training
- Experience in conducting regulated procedures including minor surgical work under anaesthesia
- An in-depth understanding of the Animal Scientific Procedures Act 1986, including implications associated with breaches of the regulations
- Knowledge of the processes of sterilisation/disinfection, and appreciation of its importance in maintaining a healthy facility
