A unique opportunity has arisen for a Director of Biological Services within the Estates directorate.
In this integral role, you will provide leadership, development and strategic direction on the work of the Department of Biological Services. You will offer operational expert advice and support to the Establishment Licence Holder as well as ensuring the highest levels of compliance to ensure the research output and reputation of the University. You will also be accountable also to the Head of College with the College Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS) for the quality of the service provided in support of the University’s research.
You will influence the design and development of the University’s continuous programme of improvement to provide a high standard of laboratory animal services and optimise the use of facilities and expertise by ensuring the Department’s procedures reflect best practice in the provision of modern biological services. You will possess the leadership experience to build the skills and capability in veterinary and animal care staff across the University to ensure delivery of a professional and responsive service that meets the evolving needs of the University’s scientific community whilst working collaboratively with academic and other colleagues.
You will have current, comprehensive knowledge of laboratory animal healthcare and associated legislation in addition to significant management experience gained in a laboratory animal facility. With a high level of written and oral communication skills, you will have influencing skills to engage effectively with key stakeholders and the ability to empower and motivate others to deliver positive organisational outcomes.
