Main responsibilities as an Animal Technician include but not limited to:

  • Performing routine animal husbandry, as well as keeping detailed records of health checks
  • Handling, sexing and identifying animals to ensure high standards of animal care and welfare are maintained
  • Maintaining specific animal rooms, including basic housekeeping of animal areas, following strict hygiene rules
  • Carrying out routine regulated procedures

What skills, experience and qualifications do I need?

  • Experience within an animal facility
  • Awareness of ASPA and the 3 R’s
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of handling and sexing offspring would be an advantage but not essential
  • Experience of contributing to and following SOPs would be desirable
  • Candidate must be physically fit due to some lifting and standing for the majority of shifts (Reasonable Adjustments will be considered)
  • Institute of Animal Technology Certificate or equivalent (Desirable not essential)
