Licensed Animal Technician
We are currently looking for a Licensed Animal Technician in the West Midlands, assisting our clients with their workload and day to day duties within an Animal Research Laboratory.
The main purpose of this role is to maintain daily animal husbandry and welfare and manage experimental procedures, to supply technical support to Project Licence holders and other licensees, in accordance with the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Carry out daily husbandry, care and welfare observations for all animals within the facility
· Management of breeding colonies to ensure a constant supply of animals, without over breeding, and advising researchers on the numbers available
· As a Personal Licensee under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, manage surgical and non-surgical experimental procedures within the authorities of Project Licences held at the establishment
· Make observations, keep accurate records and store data in writing or electronically, as required
· Assist with training of new staff
· Assist with the duties in other areas of the Biomedical Services Unit, as required
Requirements from you:
· Education to a GCSE Level or equivalent
· Home Office Personal License holder
· Certificate for Home Office modules PIL ABC
· Previous experience of working with rodents and aquatics
· Excellent knowledge of animal welfare and husbandry
· An understanding of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986
· Knowledge of COSHH
