Our clients are currently looking for a Named Training and Competency Officer (NTCO). The NTCO is responsible for ensuring that all those dealing with animals are adequately educated, trained, and supervised until they are competent and that they continue to undertake appropriate further training to maintain their expertise.
In this role you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the standards set by our client within the research facility as well as the training and development of animal care staff. Your duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Duties and responsibilities
- To participate in competency training under ASPA (1986) and the EU Directive 2010/63/EU
- To assist all personal license applications on the Home Office electronic licensing system, ASPeL
- To advise individuals on the training they require for licence authority and on any practical training and supervision required following receipt of that authority
- To contribute to the 3Rs – Refinement, Reduction and Replacement – during training and competency assessment
- To work closely with the NACWO, the NVS, and other named persons including BSU section heads to deliver training for both animal care staff and researchers
- To produce and maintain SOP/DOP`s, health and safety records, including risk assessments as required by the Institute
The Requirements
- Degree in Biological based Sciences
- A thorough knowledge of the Animal Scientific Procedures Act (1986) and the EU Directive 2010/63/EU
- Hold a Home Office Licence
- Licensed to perform regulated minor procedures (PIL)
- Previous experience in training, teaching or supervisory role
- Practical knowledge of associated legislation, rules and regulations and application of these in busy biological services unit
- Able to promote and carry through new concepts and improvements in ongoing practices
- Must possess excellent communication skills and ability to work with staff at all levels (animal care staff, researchers, PPL holders NVS)
- Should be competent in IT processes and conversant with standard PC software
- IT literate and conversant with standard PC software
Desirable
- NACWO qualification
- Ability to perform and understand sampling and dosing techniques
- Experience in monitoring and reviewing the progress of trainees through assessments and discussions with managers
- Experience of producing training material
Salary: £35000-£55000 PA
