Our client, a clinical-stage gene therapy company that focuses on the development of treatments for serious diseases such as diseases of the eye, salivary gland, and central nervous system diseases is looking for a motivated Ocular Senior Scientist to join their growing team in London.
The role of the Ocular Senior Scientist is to provide technical execution on early ocular development projects and assist the preclinical team personnel in vector and assay development.
Your role:
- Development and execution of ocular gene therapy in vivo
- Drive innovation and challenge conventional assumptions
- Developing SOPs/ work instructions for the unit operations that are being developed
- Identify and test opportunities to simplify the laboratory discovery platform
- Develop and implement new technologies/projects which enhance our R&D operations (i.e. vector development)
- Tech transfer of process improvements
- Completion of experiments within provided budget and timelines
- Support the development of the emerging R&D wet lab facility
Job competencies:
- Extensive experience with (in vivo) retinal degeneration models or in vivo gene therapy is an absolute requirement
- Basic molecular biology techniques
- Experience with CNS/Neuroscience-based research – retina and/or brain
- Experience with histological processing and analysis (i.e., processing of samples for cryosection and immunohistochemistry)
- Experience evaluating and implementing new technologies/techniques
- Experience with experimental design, with an understanding of process validation
Your background:
- PhD degree in biochemistry or biology with experience in neurosciences/ocular research
or
- MSc degree in biological discipline or equivalent and 2 years of academic/ biotech industry experience in molecular biology work, process development
or
- BSc degree in biological discipline or equivalent and 4 years of academic/ biotech industry experience in molecular biology work, process development
