We are excited to recruit a theatre technician, on a full-time basis. You will be joining the Theatre Services at our well-established client’s facility based in North London.
This post will report directly to the Theatre and Resources Manager. The post holder will be required to assist in the setup and delivery of surgical training courses and contract research. In addition, they will be involved in regular activities of the mortuary and biological services unit. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake specialist training for licenced activities and acquire skills for supporting minimal access surgery and various imaging modalities. They will be required to work irregular hours in accordance with the needs of the role and be required to participate in weekend and Bank Holiday work on occasions, when requested.
Role & Responsibilities:
1. Theatres
- Compliance with SOPs
- Assisting with surgical preparation and procedures
- Maintaining GLP records
- Preparing and assisting in the running of surgical training courses and research
- Cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation of instruments and surgical equipment
- Assisting with post-mortem examinations and disposal
- Maintaining consumable levels
- Preserving the quality of equipment through proper care and maintenance
- Upholds excellent customer service
2. Mortuary
- Receipt, tracking, labelling, storage, preparation, and disposal of HTA licenced material
- Compliance with relevant SOPs
- Liaison with specialist suppliers to co-ordinate deliveries/ collections
- Liaison with funeral directors to co-ordinate cremation
- Management of mortuary store including scheduling cleaning and maintenance
- Preparation of HTA licenced specimens for use in surgical training or research
- Management of tissue registry
3. Biological Services Unit
- Monitoring of animal welfare in both pre and post-regulated intervention
- Anaesthesia, manoeuvring and monitoring of large and some small animals via various routes
- Carrying out Schedule 1 procedures
- Maintaining GLP records
- Working to improve GLP compliance through improvement and implementing these
- Dealing with tissue disposal
- Maintaining consumable and drug stock levels
- Giving medication to animals via various routes
Essential Requirements:
- Excellent communication and teamworking
- Good understanding of safe moving and handling
- Good environmental monitoring skills
- Good record keeping
Desirable:
- Experience of working in a clinical setting or operating theatre
- Good understanding of mortuary work including previous experience
